The Borough of Oadby and Wigston is a compact Borough that lies directly adjacent to and shares boundaries with the City of Leicester to the north, as well as with Harborough District to the south and east, and Blaby District to the west. The Borough has a total population of 57,300 contained within an area of around nine square miles, of which approximately two thirds is urban.

The Borough has a lot to offer in a small area. Located just to the southeast of Leicester, it has all the benefits of being within three miles of a major city, whilst also sitting on the edge with easy access to neighbouring countryside. Good road links north into Leicester and south towards Market Harborough along the A6 provide good access, whilst to the west the M1 can easily be reached. In South Wigston there is a mainline railway station with direct trains to Leicester and Birmingham.

The three towns of Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston make up the Borough with each having its own character – Oadby straddles the A6 and is home to the University of Leicester and Leicester Racecourse, Wigston is the largest town and is home to the Council offices, whilst South Wigston is clustered around a 19th Century planned village with retail and employment areas.

The Grand Union Canal skirts our southern edge, Brocks Hill Country Park sits in the middle of the Borough and provides good walking and access to nature, and there are numerous other open spaces breaking up the urban area meaning you're never far from nature.

Major employment areas are focused around the railway lines at South Wigston and Wigston, with a further area on the edge of Oadby close to the Racecourse. These are home to some 2,500 Businesses, mostly SMEs but also including larger national businesses such as Cromwell Tools and United Biscuits. These areas provide local employment in a range of sectors.

The Borough of Oadby and Wigston benefits from excellent transport links with the East and West Midlands and beyond. The M1 and M69 motorways are within a few miles connecting Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston with the wider road network to the west, whilst links to the south are along the A6 and to the east along the A47.

Both Birmingham and East Midlands airports are in easy reach by car with a travel time of less than 45 minutes, and Leicester Airport is just east of Oadby.
