New app launches to boost Oadby & Wigston businesses

Residents and visitors can now take advantage of exclusive offers from businesses in Oadby & Wigston using the new OW Local app.

Oadby & Wigston Borough Council (OWBC) has launched the app to support businesses in the borough and encourage residents to shop locally.

As well as providing users with access to exclusive savings, OW Local acts as an e-commerce hub to allow businesses to sell and advertise their products and services and share information about their offer.

Currently more than 100 businesses across South Wigston, Wigston and Oadby have signed up to be listed on the app from sectors including food and drink, beauty, retail, and leisure.

OW Local is completely free for businesses based in the borough to join, and anyone who would like to see their business added should reach out to business@oadby-wigston.gov.uk.

The app is now available to download onto your device on both Apple's App Store and Google Play for Android - just search for 'OW Local'.

Anyone who downloads the app by Monday 4 December will also be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a Christmas Hamper worth £100 from Wigston Deli.

Councillor Lee Bentley, Deputy Leader of OWBC, said: "We have some great shops and businesses in the borough and I hope that OW Local will help residents and visitors alike to discover them and provide them with a boost.

"This is an exciting platform and I am delighted to see that so many businesses have already signed up for the opportunity to raise their profile and connect digitally with potential customers, which is crucial in this increasingly online world.

"Shopping locally is so important for the future of our highstreets, and I really encourage everyone to download this app, make use of some of the excellent deals and see what is on offer on their doorstep."

Laura Roberts, Retail Manager at Menphys, said: "The app is a modern way to increase footfall in our town centres and brings Oadby & Wigston into the 21st Century. We're excited to be on board and looking forward to making special offers in our charity shop and coffee shop available to customers that have downloaded it."

Zaid Khalifa, Manager at Bru Oadby, said: "As a relatively new businesses to the Oadby Parade we want to be part of the wider community.

"OW Local is a great way to promote our in store offer and promotions, as well as giving OW Local app users a little extra reward when visiting us."

OW Local has been created in partnership with Bubltown, an award-winning technology company which has already had major success creating and implementing such projects for councils throughout the country, and was funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
